What Goes Around

Over the weekend, Phantom mentioned a bit about online games. A few titles were thrown around, and Battlefield 1942 came up. Well, as it turns out I purchased the game many months ago, around the same time I bought Unreal Tournament 2003. For many a month, that Battlefield 1942 game has been sitting on my desk, just collecting dust. Since I was never going to install it (never had time, and I stopped playing the demo version), I decided to pass it along to him.

Sent it off in the mail today. I can’t remember the last time I sent something overseas (I actually had to fill out a Customs form thingy).

And guess what happened to me today, when I got home?

I find a package waiting for me, from a3dmofo! He mentioned something was on its way to me, but I had completely forgotten about it until I walked up to my porch. The instant I saw it in my mailbox, I knew exactly what it was. We had talked Dave Eggers a while back, and he (on more than one occasion mind you) raved about this book.

Karmic alignment. Dig it.

To top things off, the back cover has blurbs from two writers I admire a great deal: David Sedaris and David Foster Wallace. Doesn’t get much better than that.

But wait, it does.

Something you might not know about me – but when I get new books (and this pertains mainly to new hardback books), I immediately take off the covers. I used to slip these things into plastic dust jackets, many years back when I was working as a lowly page at the Monroe County Public Library. Without dust jackets, those covers just end up getting ripped and torn to hell. And, for my money, it’s difficult to keep the cover on the book while you’re reading.

So, first thing I do… I always take the cover off.

Well, the lighting in my apartment is shit. It’s either that, or it’s my inability to take good, close-up shots. No.. no… it must be the lighting. :)

Here’s what I found:

Cool! Thanks, Dustin!
