It’s not even technically the 27th anymore, so I’m behind. Just got done with the freelance work for Ben. Took me a while, but the workaround actually panned out.
Tip for all you folks working with dynamic text in Flash: you can mask dynamic text, but only if you embed the fonts.
I could go on and on, boring you to tears with the specifics. Since dynamic text fields inhibit buttons detecting rollovers, there’s no good way to place a dynamic text field inside a button. Lots of complications. If you put dynamic text fields in a layer above buttons, they’ll also negate the buttons.
So – I ended up creating two sample symbols in my library, linked them for export, and create two separate layers: one set of movie clips (with the appropriately colored dynamic text fields in the appropriate frames), and one set of invisible buttons set to trigger its corresponding movie clip.
I should have been able to get this done faster, but you know… the whole concentration thing lately. I just hope that I can get away with using Flash 6. If he wants Flash 5, I think it’ll still work. Just a bit more tweaking.
