Alex Leaves Chicago

There was a farewell breakfast for Alex this morning. 10:00 AM, at DeMar’s. A few of us gathered to eat some great diner food, and to wish him well on his way to Green Bay.

Stu had been waiting for a while when I showed up. At some point, he had broken a small pirate dog picture frame. He ran over to the nearby Walgreen’s, and picked up some superglue for an impromptu surgery.

I’m guessing it’s a pirate dog. It has an eyepatch, so go figure.

Good as new. The patient has a full recovery, and only the tiniest of fracture lines is visible.

The whole time, I couldn’t help but think Arrrr! It’s driving me nuts!

Stu grabbed my camera, and lamented about how people who take pictures are rarely in the pictures taken. He snapped a bunch of pics, including this one. That’s Jason on the left, Dave, then me. Incidentally, Jason is of Found Magazine fame, who I first met in person at Justin’s birthday party. Yeah, I’ve still got photos to post from that party… just haven’t gotten around to updating that day just yet. Here’s another interesting quirk: I first came across Found Magazine through a3dmofo, via Infourm.com.

Grand Theft Auto was a topic of discussion, and I promised Jason I’d give him my copy of the game that I bought for PC. He was a bit resistant at first (he threw up his arms in protest, and seemed to fully comprehend how addictive that game is). But he gave in pretty quickly, and folded faster than Superman on laundry day.

This is one of Stu’s shots. I’m liking it a great deal.

A random shot, taken by just holding the camera up and praying. That’s Justin on the left, Alex and Linda. A lot of food on the table, and all of it was great. Coffee was plentiful, and I was having too much fun to be sad.

Afterwards, I walked across the street for a better shot of DeMar’s.

All in all, we didn’t talk too much about Alex’s leaving. For many of us, it just didn’t seem like he was actually leaving. This morning just felt like another breakfast together. Dave seemed to agree, and he said that it won’t feel like he’s gone until he really has left.

This much is certain: I’m positive there will be some fun road trip pictures in this blog’s future. I guarantee we will be road tripping to visit Alex and Linda, and I plan on consuming more than my fair share of cheese curds.
