Beechwood Bar

I’ve been to this bar only once before (I remember shooting pool with Stu for some reason). Which is odd, since this place is like two blocks (if that) from where I live.

I was working on whiskeys all night, and didn’t get ridiculously sloppy. I got to meet a few new folks as well, which was nice.

Left to right, it’s Rob, Lara (Gretchen’s sister), and Kevin… crap. I forget the two guys on the right. The guy to my immediate right (who I think is Kevin) was in a class taught by the guy on his right. Both of them knew Gretchen because she was in the class as well, I believe.

It was a class on short fiction, which I found really interesting. I talked with Kevin (?) at length about the class, since I saw a lot of parallels between super short fiction and poetry.

Left to right, it’s Dave, Gretchen and Tori (not sure if that’s spelled right). I’ve met Tori on a handful of occasions, but really don’t know her all that well. One of these days, I figure we’ll have a really interesting, long conversation… as we both seem to know Justin and Dave (and a lot of Bloomington folk) fairly intimately.

Left to right, it’s April and Carolina (pronounced Carol-eena). Both have a connection with the editors, and when talking with the two of them I felt that we all viewed ourselves as outsider/observers. I had some cool conversations with Carolina about writing, and talked with April a bit more as the night wore on.

This evening, I was surprisingly social. I mean, introverted turtle that I am… I was moving about a good deal. I actively said hello to strangers and offered my hand. I jumped into a few games of pool. I talked to a local named Paul, and asked about the “Reserved” sign that was situated on his table. I had a really good time.
