So I’m at the Damen Blue Line stop this morning. I arrive on the platform and look down at the street. I see this minivan parked by the side of the road, blinkers on. I think – ok, someone must be stopping quickly to drop something or someone off. It’s a temporary thing, we’ve all done it.
A few minutes go by and, as I’m standing there watching traffic… I realize that the minivan has pulled up alongside an empty parking spot. However, instead of parking (and getting out of the street), they just pulled up alongside and threw on the blinkers.
There are several moments where I could see this being practical: you’re in a big rush. It’s an emergency. You are moving furtniture that requires a certain amount of space between your door and the curb. All good reasons.
But I stood there watching, and this wasn’t some quick drop off. A good deal of time passed. Now me… I’d say maybe a minute, maybe two I’d count as acceptable. But come ON. There’s a fucking spot RIGHT THERE. Is it really that difficult to park the damn thing and get out of everyone else’s way?
I’m not sure why this riled me up, but it did. I looked down and thought to myself “Do you really have to be such an asshole? You couldn’t just park your car?” I think it’s the fact that there is a sincere lack of consideration for others that upsets me.
I’m not old enough yet to actually own a cane that I can shake at people. But until that glorious day arrives, I’m going to do the next best thing: take a picture of the jackhole, and post it on my blog. And complain.
