I didn’t really take that many pictures tonight (mainly because I didn’t know anyone at all, and didn’t feel like asking for permission and doing that whole thing. Howard (one of Justin’s building-mates) snapped a few shots here and there.
Met a bunch of interesting folks (as well as the couple, Liz and Patrick, who the party was for… as the were leaving for New York). I talked at length with Craig, who apparently is headed out to Seattle or Portland (he’s undecided), and plans on writing a novel. I mentioned MFA programs to him, as well as artist residencies (MacDowell or Yaddo)… where he could find some compensation for his time/writing. He hand’t really thought of an MFA program as a viable route, whereas it’s something that was instrumental for me in getting me both time and training.
Let’s see… I also talked briefly with a girl named Emma (who was a drummer for a local band called Salomé). I spoke at length with John, who is a doctoral student studying Philosophy. He recommended I read Plato (and referred to the Crito as “really boss.” A lot of folks at the party were architects, and I got into a conversation with some girl as to who she thought I should read or look into. I’ve forgotten her name, but her suggestion was Rem Koolhaas, and she suggested Delirious New York.
I also ran into someone named Sonia, who knew Kent and Christine. And after we talked a bit, we found out we had met a long while back (almost a year ago exactly, in fact) at a party for Rena, as she was leaving town.

Towards the end of the evening, Michael asked if she could braid my hair. I said yes, and walked around the rest of the night looking like this. :|
Good times. I was decidedly more outgoing and social than I have been in a long while. I started up conversations with many random people… and for someone as introverted as me, that seemed like a good thing.
