Chuck Palahniuk lives and works in Portland, Oregon. He is a graduate of the University of Oregon. “Project Mayhem” is a portion of his first novel, Fight Club, to be published by W. W. Norton this summer.
“Maybe two years ago, I went camping with some friends and got into a fight with some guy who’d been hot-knifing hash and was really strung out. Going back to my nice desk job, I had two raccoon-mask black eyes and all the nice folks I worked with started whispering about what my personal life must be like. It was fun. My face was a tangible fashion statement about how violent things can get. I loved it. I love to fight. My eyes still don’t look right.”
