Leaving Work

On my way out, I decided to stop in at Dunphy’s for a drink. I had designs on seeing Louise Glück (our current poet laureate) read tonight at the Poetry Center with Gretchen, but planned the whole thing poorly. I had assumed we could just show up and buy tickets, but didn’t even consider the fact that it might get sold out.

Which it did.

Doh.

So instead of doing that, I went downstairs and ordered a drink. And read a few of Glück’s poems (from Ararat). I also wanted to try to scribble a few lines, which I did end up doing.

On the way out, I noticed a guy pause on the sidewalk and take a picture of the buildings across the river. Instantly, I was reminded of the very first time I really saw downtown Chicago at night. And so, I pulled out my camera, and took a picture.

Bonus: I got to see two guys taking down the flags along the front of the building.
