Lots of Images (just not here)

Spent more time tonight trying to extract height/width info from my images. You’d think something like this would be a simple freaking thing to do via AppleScript. But so far, I’ve run into roadblock after roadblock.

Today, Justin showed me Extra Suites, a background scripting application by Kanzu with a ton of built-in scripts. But when I tried using it to grab height/width from my photos… I got the same results as I did yesterday, using “Image Events.”

For some reason, my scripts are telling me that all my images have the exact same width/height (2048×1536). And yet when I pull images into iPhoto, the info there shows certain photos appearing vertically (sized at 1536×2048). Where is iPhoto getting its info? Is this all EXIF data that I need to get to? Gah.

I had resorted to pulling everything into iPhoto and working with the images within that app. Lots of editing and tweaking to be done. Namely: flip photos that are really vertical but display horizontally; delete photos I didn’t take myself; remove duplicates (I may not end up doing this, I haven’t decided yet).

My brain’s sort of all over the place with this thing. I was frustrated and planned to hit the sack about 45 minutes ago… but then I found a few features of iPhoto that have me awake and interested again. It’s close to 1AM, and I’m trying a few things out.

Not a lot of progress tonight, sadly. Treading water, mostly. I’m annoyed by all the twists and turns I’ve had to attempt so far, but I’m hoping this all ends up being worth it.

Boring post, I know. I’m working on making it worth your while. Bear with me.
