Lunch with Liz

Since we both work downtown, Liz and I decided to meet up for lunch today. It was a really great day outside, and on the train ride over… I kept imagining how wonderful it would be to get everyone at work, en masse, and head out to Millenium Park for a lunch/picnic thing. Maybe even once a week. That’d be pretty sweet.

I’m used to staying inside the building for lunch, as we have a food court. Or, at most, we venture out about a block or two. Having a meal outside sounds like a good way to welcome Spring to the city. Gotta remember to kick this idea around to the coworkers.

Liz and I met at a Thai place, just opposite of Millenium Park. As I was waiting, I noticed this guy and had to break out the camera.

After lunch, we walked across the street to hang out by Crown Fountain for a few minutes. I happened to see this weird chess/checkers setup, right on the corner. I wasn’t sure exactly what this was – you pay to use the boards? Pay $2 to play somebody?

There was one guy arguing with another guy dressed in a suit. The guy in the suit said something like “Are you a lawyer? No? Because I am, and you should listen to what I have to say.” That’s about all I caught. To be honest, I’m not sure who was “in charge” of this setup. So – rather than trying to play a game, I just took a quick picture instead.

Liz, patiently putting up with my incessant picture-taking.

I snuck up next to the middle of the fountain, and set my camera on the ground. Lots of folks were taking off their shoes and walking along the middle (which has maybe an inch of water, all told).

Father and son.

Watching the water jet out from the LED displays is a blast. One of these days, I’ll get some video of the whole process (and maybe even get some video of the fountains at night).

Prior pics of Millenium Park and Crown Fountain are here.

Liz braves the water which, she finds out, is actually pretty cold.

Lunch today was awesome. I’m looking forward to meeting Liz for lunch more often, and I can’t wait until we start taking our lunches outside – by the lake, by the Art Museum, under some shade, anywhere outside and away from phones and flourescent lights.

I’m happy it’s warm. I’m happy it’s spring. I’m happy I’m in Chicago.

I’m really happy I met Liz.
