This is embarassing for me to admit, but here goes. I haven’t done my taxes yet.
Although, to be specific, I guess I should say that I haven’t done my taxes yet since 2004.
Yeah. Told you this was embarassing.
But – today’s the day to fix all that. I was given the name of an accountant (James Kamin) through Justin, who was in turn referred by Stu. And knowing those two, their recommendations are as good as gold, as far as I’m concerned.

I travelled to Old Town, and had a bit of trouble finding James’ office. I saw a sign out on Wells, but couldn’t really locate the building/door. After a minute or two – I found a gated area, punched in on the intercom, and got access into the adjoining courtyard. And really – this was a great, quaint little area, secluded and just off the hustle and bustle of Wells.
Inside, we got to work pretty quickly. During the preparation process, James and I chatted a little bit – but things were mostly business. I was surprised at how quickly things seemed to be going, as I figured my paperwork would be disorganized and incomplete. Turns out, i had everything I needed, and we were done in a fairly short amount of time.
I got a pretty good feeling talking with James, afterwards, and we discussed a bit about computers, and a bit about his office space. I really am quite taken with his office, as one wall is literaly nothing but windows, looking out onto the small courtyard. You can’t see it in the picture above, but once you walk down a bit, things really open up.

Before leaving, I asked James if I could get a quick picture. This is always something awkward to ask, especially when meeting someone for the first time – but he was ok with things, and didn’t mind at all. What was kind of funny was that, as I took his photo, the folks who had an appointment after me showed up. “I wonder what they’re thinking” he said to me, as he saw them coming up the stairs.
Overall, James was polite, efficient, and comprehensive. And he comes highly recommended. If you’re in Chicago and need an accountant, I suggest swinging by his office. Here’s his info:

And if you do happen to swing by, tell him Felix sent you. :)

Jim has been our tax accountant for the past 16 years. And he is the best!He was referred to me by my theatre/writer/designer friends because he understands those fields and the “artistic’ temperament. He is both patient and knowledgeable. Felix is right–Jim’s office is always fun to visit too. Strange to write “fun” in connection with taxes.
Jim has been my accountant for 27 years. He is the best!Go to him. You will see why he is the best.Rodd
