Happy Birthday, America!

Sadly this year, no fireworks were purchased, no attempts were made to blow up watermelons. Instead, Liz and I hung out on her back porch a bit, and watched the fireworks from the neighborhood, against the backdrop of the Chicago skyline.

I was pretty amazed by both the quality and quantity of what we saw. I guess I’ve never really been super high up before on July 4th, as it seemed like there were a hundred separate celebrations, all within a four or five block radius. It was pretty amazing to see so many fireworks going off, in some many different places.

And, to top things off, there was some kind of fancy, local show nearby. I’m talking super big, super loud, expensive fireowrks – and not the kind you can just buy at the store. All this, and here all I expected to see was a few sparklers, a few bottle rockets.
