Been a while since I’ve updated the songs. About two weeks ago, I was stuck on a cover of Outkast’s “Hey Ya,” as done by Mat Weddle. I played the CRAP out of that song, and found myself digging through my library for other covers (slower, more mellow versions of the originals).
I decided to include two other slow cover favorites: Mary Lou Lord’s version of Van Halen’s “Jump” and Gary Jules’ version of “Mad World,” by Tears for Fears.
As a side note, Ben was the one who introduced me to Lord’s version of Jump. It’s all I know of her work, and I really need to listen to more of her stuff. The Jules cover of Mad World first appeared on the Donnie Darko soundtrack, and I think that cover did a lot for Jules as far as exposure and attention.
Slow and laid back stuff. It must be winter, latching into my head, making me want to listen to these songs and get all self-reflective and whatnot.
