I found out about Google SMS through Rachelle Bowden’s blog, and ever since… it’s fast become a great tool for when I’m out and about, away from a computer.
Even though I have a web browser on my Blackberry, it’s a bit of a pain to use. With Google SMS, all I do is send a text message to 466453 (‘Google’), and I get a lot of info back (typically addresses, phone numbers, etc).
Of particular use, I’ve found that I can look up a phone number quickly to check to see if a store is open, or to find out when they close. Looking over the official page, I think there are a ton of features I’m not even aware of just yet.
So far, there aren’t any charges from Google (but you may get charged by your provider, depending on what kind of plan you have). If you’re able to send/receive text messages… this is definitely the way to go. Way easier (and faster) than calling up a buddy at work, and having them do a quick search for you.

Goog411 is also pretty awesome for getting info while you’re out about local businesses. It’s particular nice for those of us who aren’t huge fans of texting, though it’s also got some nice texting features, too. And since it’ll connect you directly, there’s no need to write or remember the number.
