In early January, we had to (sadly) say goodbye to our ping pong table so that we could build out the area with some additional desks.
Late last week, the newly formed Product Team (made of Justin, Allison and Chris and led by Ben) moved their desks to take over this area.

Allison and Justin, in their new spots. My office is on the other side of the wall.
When I was an undergrad at Indiana University, the dorm rooms there had a wooden box that was set in the wall… situated between pairs of rooms. On both sides, you could open a little door and see into the other room. We found out that this was a throwback to the old days, and the box was where the University kept the shared telephones. In the most literal of ways, it was what you would call “old school.”
In thinking about that setup, I really want to carve a similar hole in the wall, so that Justin and Allison and I can pass notes back and forth.

Chris’ new desk/area.
On moving over, one thing the team quickly realized was that… the area actually had no electrical outlets. I guess there were plans for them to be installed, but they never got set up in the first pass. So despite having four new workstations, there was zero power along the walls for them.

But with a little ingenuity and a lot of tape… problem solved. There are now two trip-wire-esque extension cords snaking from the Design area over to the Product Team’s area.

Fast forward to today. Near 5:30, I walked out to see a whole mess of equipment and electronics set up in the Product Team’s area. Manny is trying to pin a mic onto James’ shirt, getting ready to record a series of “help” tutorials for our CMS.
The whole time, James is reading snippets from a transcript of Christian Bale’s magnificent soliloquy.

In looking down, it was amazing to see all these lights and things set up in an area that has virtually zero electricity. Extension cord heaven!

James, Chris and Manny getting set to do some trial runs. As I was leaving, Chris was serving as a cue card holder. Never a dull moment…
