On the way in to work last week, I spotted this guy on a lamppost near the California Blue Line stop. The thing that caught my eye was that it was done on a Priority Mail sticker from the US Post Office.
I’d seen a lot more of these, back when I used to live in Wicker Park. Digging around in the archives, I found some older photos of: Marilyn, Random Girl (Joan Jett?), Marilyn again, Little Richard, Little Richard Revisited.
While I know artists tend to use mediums like the USPS stickers (because they are abundant and free), I have this sense that these were all done by the same hand. Maybe the sticker is leading me to think that way, but the stencil-based nature of all the images makes me think of a singular author.
