Working at Play: Rock Band Network Allows Musicians to Upload/Sell Tracks Within Game

The folks at Rock Band have taken the inevitable next step: creating a network that allows bands to upload their own music, and allows users to buy/download the tracks.

On top of that, they’re soliciting help from the “community” to do the track reviews. While there’s a lot of “made by the fans” to this story, I’m particuarly awed at how so much of the work is shifted to the participants. They make being a peer content reviewer (and being recognized as “an experiecned rhythm gamer”) sound like fun, and not like the tedious QA job that it is.

Check out the site, and especially this video. It’s seems like a pretty neat model for musicians, and win win all around. I’m amazed at all the work that went into allowing others to do a lot of work… for yet others to play a game.
