Found (Abandoned) Dog, Henson’s Post-Surgery Update

Just got off the phone with Mary, from Northcentral Maltese Rescue. Good news all around, and it sounds like the little guy is doing well.

Henson, the dog Liz and I found a few days ago, ended up having a broken leg. Given the high cost of the procedure, we weren’t able to provide for him financially… and turned Hansen over to Mary and the Northcentral Maltese Rescue.

Henson was in surgery for two hours earlier this morning, and Mary called me about 15 minutes ago to report the news. The vet that performed the surgery believes that Henson will fully recover. The overall recovery time is a bit lengthier, and will be around 12 weeks total.

Henson will remain at the hospital where the surgery was performed, until around Tuesday of next week. After that, he’ll be returning and living with Mary while he recovers.

Mary’s promised to send updates, and even photos as time goes on. And I’m sure I’ll be sending emails her way to check on how he’s doing. If and when I find out news, I’ll post the updates here.

The past few days have been a blur of worry and activity. I’m glad Henson was able to finally get his leg fixed, and that it was early enough along that there wasn’t permanent damage. I feel a huge sense of relief, knowing things are better for Henson now – and a huge sense of gratitude for MAry and Northcentral Maltese Rescue. Without them, I’m not sure how Henson would have gotten the emergency care that he so needed.

For now, going into a long holiday weekend, a lot of us folks are breathing a small sigh of relief. And hopefully, one little dog named Henson is doing the same.
