Jónsi: Boy Lilikoi

One of the songs I’ve returned to recently has been Boy Lilikoi, by Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi.

It’s hard for me to pin down just why I’ve come back to this song – there are so many parts that I just love about it. There’s the slow build from a twinkling keyboard, leading to a single voice against a guitar… ultimately building to a thudding percussion and a chorus of voices/falsettos.

There is a definite Spring/Summer vibe to this song, I think. Or at least, it’s the vibe I’m projecting onto it. Hearing this song makes me think of the outdoors, of car rides and long distances. It’s the feeling of traveling somewhere with a friend or a loved one, and that moment when you realize how contented you are by the journey itself, regardless of whatever destination awaits.
