I enjoy pranking people on April Fools’ Day. But simply Rickrolling people no longer had the same thrill it used to… and let’s be honest, you only catch the chumps with that kind of gag, anyway.
So I came up with whywouldyouclickthat.com, a site that chided users for clicking on a tasteless or inappropriate link. With just a few tweaks, I was able to set things up so that anyone who wanted to participate in April Fools’ Day could do so… with this site doing most of the work for them.
Designed to work on Facebook, the site provides a randomly obfuscated URL along with embedded thumbnails. Create a fake/compelling title and description, and the site does the rest.
Here’s a blog post I made in 2011, if you’re interested in seeing the concept in action.
