I Want To Ride My Bicycle…
I woke up late this morning and, after debating it with myself for longer than I thought possible… I decided to hop on my bike and ride the thing to work. Today was the first time I took any sort of major street, and all in all it wasn’t too terribly bad. It’s definitely going to take me a while to get used to riding next to buses and cars, but overall it was a good experience. I’m happy I decided to do it, despite my doubts.
More than halfway to the office, I thought to myself, "Hey, this isn’t all that bad." Mainly, it got tricky at intersections. I’m still a bit wobbly, so I went ahead and fully stopped and waited for the light. Towards the end of the ride, I was creeping out into intersections more. I think it’s a matter of practice (and balance) until I get to the point where I’m always in motion on the bike.
When I got to the Merchandise Mart, it took me a few tries to locate the right service elevator. I had to explain to a lot of guards who I was, where I worked, and why I was trying to bring a bike up the elevator. But everyone I met was really nice, and instead of making me lock my bike up at the rack… they let me get on the elevator. The elevator which, by the way, opens right next to the room where I work.
Rock. :)
