Breaking The Law! Breaking The Law!

Matt showed me the "secret parking spot" near work a few weeks ago. Most places downtown, there’s a hefty fee for the parking lots. One of the cheaper ones is fondly referred to as the "Mud Lot," as it’s a blast to wade through whenever it rains. The Mud Lot costs $8, so it’s not too bad. But, a few hundred feet away, across the street… there’s a small stretch of road that’s tucked away. It’s hard to see mainly because there is a trisection nearby, and all the roads rise up, the apex being their point of convergence.

The secret parking spot is near a truck storage area, and some open fields. There’s a building nearby, but I have no idea what it is. Here’s the unnerving thing though – there are signs all along the stretch that say "Tow Zone." As the road first starts off, it’s downhill. Everything on the hill is legal parking. Once the street levels out, it becomes a loading area from 9 AM to 6 PM, and there are signs announcing how they will tow.

But. A lot of people park here:

Matt did the math and according to him, you’d have to get away with parking there a month before being able to "break even" (in the event you got towed). Some folks from Q101 have been parking there for a few months, no problem. I’ve only done it a handful of times.

Here’s where I parked today:

So far, so good.
