Assisting

Called up Stu tonight, and talked a bit more about my assisting him with his wedding shoots. There won’t be a real need for him to have an assistant until around June/July, but there’s an upcoming wedding he’s doing this weekend… and I’ll probably tag along and observe.

This is an incredibly flattering offer he’s given me, and I’m going to be learning an awful lot. We have still yet to work out the particulars, but it looks like I’ll be working towards a fancier camera.

When I expressed some concerns to him about my lack of experience, he helped allay my fears some. Mostly though, he stated that he wouldn’t ever put me in a position where I could potentially threaten his livelihood (which, photography really is to him). Stu is smart enough that he’s not going to allow me to do anything detrimental (since it is, really, his reputation/work on the line). So that’s a bit of a comfort.

Still though, I want to make sure I’m actually helping him. That I’m going to be actually assisting, and offering something. I’ll tag along on a few shoots prior to June/July, and will most likely try doing a few practice shoots as well.
