Never a dull moment

This afternoon, people are murmuring in the hallway. Something about an angry guy. Yelling. Glass being broken.

Being the investigative pair that we are, Mike and I went to go check out the commotion. We had heard something was going on near the front desk. Glass broken in the hallway of the Mart.

We found this right outside the front door. Lots of security folks around.

This is the lamp (kinda hard to see the parts that were broken).

A long while back, I talked with Diana (who mans the front desk) and found out that there’s literally a “Panic” button. I didn’t hear anything today, but I think that when it’s pressed… it sends an alarm throughout the office. I’m certain she pressed it today, but again… I didn’t hear anything.

Here’s what I sort of heard. Some guy came in, started swearing and yelling. He claimed that the morning show jock (Mancow) used his voice on the air, and possibly altered it. Our new General Manager (Marv), who just started not too long ago, was out fairly quickly trying to calm the guy down, asking what he could do.

Apparently, the guy was irrational. Claims of being oa secret agent or something. I dunno. Brian, one of the sound guys, runs to get Jimmy – who’s a big guy in his own right, and part of the morning show crew. Jimmy and this random guy exchange words, and the guy finally leaves. At some point after leaving, he breaks the lamp outside the front door.

Vague stuff, and I think the guy was determined to be mentally unbalanced. Thankfully nobody got hurt, but everyone who was near the front when this happened is a bit uneasy. I really wonder what this will mean for our overall security procedures, and how we deal with the front desk. Maybe things will change, maybe they won’t.

Weird day.

Here’s the guy. I guess he hung around long enough for the security folks and the cops to take him into custody.
