Holy Visitors

Ok. So I have access to some basic site stats through my host. I sift through the info most nights, just to see if I can glean any information on how many folks are visiting and what areas they’re interested in. It doesn’t identify individuals, but it gives me a pretty general sense of where people go and what they’re looking at (specific pages or directories or files).

The stats track some basic info, month to month, one of which is a “daily average.” Daily average hits, daily average pages, and so forth. By my estimation, I tend to get anywhere from 90 – 150 pages a day, on average. I have a hunch these aren’t full-on page views, as I’m not entirely sure what constitutes a “page.” But based on the past two years, anything around a Daily Average page view of 150 is pretty strong, and indicates a decent month of traffic for the blog.

As I mentioned recently, I’ve found that a few sites have been linking to my the pi10k experiment. Well, I took a look at my stats this morning, and I’ve had some crazy traffic in the past few days.

Looking at the info, for the month of December my Daily Average Pages is currently 1806! In the past, the most I’ve ever seen might have been something like 200. Granted, the average is a bit off as there have only been 3 days in December so far… but damn! And even though I feel like this number likely over-represents the average number of pages per day… it’s still an amazing jump from what I’m used to seeing.

The thing I’m curious about now is whether anyone will trickle over to the blog, and stick around. Or if this is just a momentary spike, and if it will disappear as quickly as it came.
