Happy Birthday Chelsea

Ended up at The Green Eye (a small little bar near the Western Blue Line stop. Met some interesting folks, and didn’t feel uncomfortable by not knowing folks. All of the new people I met were very friendly and open, and I fell easily into conversation with almost everyone.

I got to see Matt again, which was awesome. Haven’t seen him in a while, and it was very cool getting caught up. He’s sporting a new hairstyle (which he refers to as his “business mohawk”). Good seeing him again, and we made plans to have dinner soon (and so I can see Tracy and Malachi again).

Hung out at the bar a long while. Chatted with a few folks (Amy about running, Matt about poetry). Good stuff. Lots of people who came out to celebrate Chelsea’s b-day.

At one point in the night, someone walks up to me and says “Your hair is so long now!” I’m racking my brain trying to figure out who this is, and when I ask for her name… she says “Oh Felix, you’re breaking my heart.”

Turns out, it was Carla! I hadn’t seen her in ages, and so didn’t recognize her at all! We talked a bit, and the whole time I was marvelling at how she looked nothing like how she looked before. Totally different hairstyle, and I would have never have recogznied her had she not introduced herself.

Fast forward a few drinks and a few hours. Everyone else has dropped off or gone off to dance, and I’m sitting at the table with Carla and her girlfriend Jessie. Next thing I know, someone’s yelling last call and we pack up and head out.

Carla and Jessie invite me over, and so I hang out at their place for a bit. We end up testing out out their mini hookah, and I’m happy to report that it’s fully functional. We surf around a bit (Jessie shows me some of the stuff she does, and I showed off the blog). I also ended up finding the pics I took of Carla’s apartment, way back when I stopped in to help troubleshoot.

The three of us then kicked back and ended up watching a lot of old 1980’s videos on Yahoo Launch. Totally indulgent, and we were all laughing a great deal at the hair and the music. Good stuff.

Again – next thing I know, it’s like 3:30 AM when I finally stumbled out of their place. Today, thinking back, I’m wondering if they were trying to give me subtle hints that they were tired and I was just too drunk to realize. We exchanged numbers, and made some tentative plans to hang out again. The two of them were lots of fun, and a blast to hang out with. Looking forward to doing so again.

Oh – side note. While over at their place, Carla introduced me to the wonders that are finger socks. They insisted I try on a pair and, all told, it was pretty darn comfy. Finger socks are like regular socks, but with tiny compartments for each toe. Very snug, and very weird if you’re not used to it.

So to sum up my evening: I went and bought a dirty magazine. I took a few pulls off a bottle of whiskey. Closed down a bar. Smoked from a hookah while wearing a pair of red, striped finger socks… with a teddy bear on them. And watched 80’s videos.

I’m thinking this one goes in the “win” column.
