Contemplating a Move
I recently found out that Howard, Justin’s house-mate, is looking to buy his own place and his apartment will be opening up. The two of us met tonight, to see how things might work out were I to move in to his apartment.
Howard hasn’t found a place yet, but has been looking. However, he’s got to sign a lease pretty soon, so he would end up subletting to me whenever he found a place. So the actual move-in date is up in the air, and dependent on when Howard finalizes buying a place.
On the plus side: his kitchen is being redone (an island was just added). Bathroom, redone. Central heat. Cheaper rent by about $75/month. The backyard area is fantastic. I’d be much, much closer to Dave, to Gretchen, to Rob, and to Will too, I think.
And of course, the biggest draw is that I’d be Justin’s neighbor. Literally, we’d be across the hall from one another (Howard’s apartment is on the same floor, right behind Justin’s). And, of course, there are Justin’s great neighbors to factor in as well (Kari, Doug and Greg).
The slight complication for me was that yesterday, my landlord told me that he was looking to renovate a lot in my current apartment. I’m on a month-to-month technically, so switching over to another place shouldn’t be too terribly difficult. But I found out that the heating here will be completely redone (which was one of my big issues with this current place). On top of that, central air is being added. And the porch will be redone (and even extended).
I still haven’t made up my mind yet, but I’m leaning towards making the move. I’m a creature of habit and patterns, and I think a change might do me a great deal of good. The one sucky thing about the move would be that I’d be farther away from Liz and Steph.
A lot to consider and kick around. For any of you out there who I’ve helped move in the past year.. know that I might very well be calling in some favors.
