Dim Sum

Got a call from Howard last night, inviting me out for Dim Sum this morning. I met up with him and John, and the three of us made our way toward Chinatown, where we were meeting Phil.

En route, we ended up swinging by one of the stairwells in New Chinatown, where Howard showed us where he had carved his initials, some 18+ years ago.

I’ve forgotten the name of the restaurant we went to. Happy Chef? Something like that.

Man oh man. Dim Sum is an indulgence, mostly because I find it incredibly greasy. Tons of food, and even more tea to wash it all down. A really great meal overall.

Good boy that I am, I make sure my plate is clean.

Shortly after this, Howard ordered some noodles which we all had to help finish. Stuffed beyond belief.

Really super crowded place. There were only four of us, and every other table in the place had at least 8 people, minimum. After a while, as we were talking post-meal… you could feel the eyes of all the people standing in line at the door.

On the way home, we stopped off at the Chicago Oriental Wholesale Market. John picked up a box of Ramen Noodles, Howard debating buying some Chinese booze (I saw something called “White Gold,” which looked both fascinating and disgusting).

I ended up coming across some dried squid, and bought a packet of it. This was something I used to have as a kid, and I got it more out of nostalgia than anything else. It’s really similar to beef jerky except that, well… it’s squid! It was interesting to try this stuff again – it’s been at least 10 plus years since I’ve had it.
