Resfest
Chris and I met up with Will after work at the MCA to attend opening night of Resfest.
Shot of the main entrance (which was locked).
Sculptures near the front.
The three of us were attending two sessions tonight. The first was the keynote address by MK12. The initial part of the talk was a bit weird, as the audience felt a little stiff (despite several good jokes). About halfway through, things started to loosen up and things became a lot more enjoyable.
I wasn’t terribly familiar with MK12, and got to see a fair amount of their early work tonight. Chris has been a longtime fan, and it was on the strength and fervor of his recommendation that got me hooked. And I was definitely not disappointed – some really great stuff.
Of what I saw, their Brasil inspired piece was one of my favorites. Great, great stuff. And the trailer for History of America had the crowd in hysterics.
For some bizarre reason, after the Keynote we had to exit the auditorium, retrieve our tickets for the film screening, and then go back in the auditorium. A bit of a pain, as I was surprised to see so many people out in the corridor waiting to go inside. The keynote audience was low, but the theater filled up quickly for the first screening.
Out in the lobby area, I ran into Jon (who I know through my friend Dustin). Jon and I haven’t seen one another in a good while. The two of us chatted a bit, shortly before they opened the doors to let everyone inside.
Like I said – it was crowded ” target=”_blank”>for the first screening.
Great films tonight. Resfest is going on all weekend, and at $8 per ticket… I’d highly recommend you catch a few sessions if you’ve got the time.
Afterwards, Will, Chris and I walked around looking for a place to hang out, grab a drink, and discuss the films we saw. Instead of travelling farther to the “afterparty” (and despite the offer of free drinks there), we decided on something a bit closer. We end up at a place called Pippin’s (I think), a few blocks away.
Of note, this was the same bar I went into with Dustin, way back in June when we hung up those Nascar things. A good omen, I thought.
We hung out for about one drink, kicking around the various films we had all seen. We each had our favorites, and discussed several of them at length. A bit later, we all hopped a cab and now I’m back at home, a few minutes away from midnight, a little worn out and very ready for sleep.
