The Splat Flats
I had forgotten that Rob was participating in an Open House today. After work, I headed over to Justin’s, as we planned to meet up with Gretchen, grab a drink, and hang out with Rob in his studio.
I stopped by Michelle’s to see what she was up to, and she ended up joining us on our excursion.
First stop: Gelato Cafe. Gretchen was looking to do an article for Center Stage, and wanted to try out this place. Although I didn’t get any gelato at the time, I’m now kicking myself. Looking over these pictures, I may just have to go back!
Gretchen took a quick detour to drop off some gelato for Rob. In the meanwhile, Justin, Michelle and I went to Rainbo for a few drinks, to wait for Howard.
After a bit, we decided to head over to Rob’s studio, and dove in to the open house already in progress.
Though not all the artists in the building were participating, a good number of them were. From the street, you could hear a great deal of commotion from inside.
Welcome!
A few of the paintings Rob didn’t throw out.
He’s packed a lot of things into a remarkably small space.

Group shot, hanging out in Rob’s studio drinking PBR’s.
After hanging out a bit, Michelle and I took to wandering around the building. The hallways were about twice as packed as this. Moving from room to room took a lot of maneuvering.
These paintings by Man Bartlett caught my eye…
The artists do love their sauce…
This room I never fully understood. It was marked as the “Wonder Cave,” and had its own private tour (complete with tour guide).
Inside, it was pitch black save a few very small, flourescent lights. I took a quick shot with the flash, and this is what we found.
This was another room, up on the third floor. Not sure who the artist was, but the entire room was more like an installation piece.
This was really pretty, and a nice place to just stand and relax… away from all the other crowded rooms.
Neat stuff. Wish I knew who did this.
On leaving the building, I spotted this row of cans/bottles lining the stairwell. This probably speaks to the event as much as any other picture.
Afterwards, we all headed over to Clubfoot for some more drinks. I hung out for a while, but ended up taking an early leave. Tomorrow, I’m off to help Holly move, and wanted to get a decent amount of sleep beforehand.
