Happy Birthday Jasmine!

My oh-so-cute niece Jasmine turned one today! I can’t believe it’s already been a year since she arrived.

Here are all her presents – tons of stuff from uncles, aunts, grandparents and great-grandparents.

The birthday cake (I don’t think Jasmine’s really had all that much sugar before today).

Look at all those presents!

All during lunch, we were expecting some visitors from Ohio. My uncle Corky, Auntie Dawn, as well as my cousins Haley and Jordan were driving all the way to join in the festivities. My grandma didn’t know they were coming, but everyone else did.

After they called and told us they were within 20 minutes of the restaurant, my dad kept going up to the window and peeking outside. When they all finally walked in, I had my camera trained on my grandma, to catch her reaction (that’s my Uncle Benny sitting next to her).

For those who can’t understand Cantonese, my grandma is saying that she knew something was going on. She’s telling my Uncle Benny that she saw my dad up at the window, and was wondering why he kept looking outside. She knew something was up.

So. Freaking. Cute.

My dad, doing nothing to discourage Jasmine from pushing the cake into her face.

Today was also Grace’s birthday – and so my Auntie Vicky got her a cake too. This is Grace with her husband John (co-owners of the restaurant), about to make a wish.

Today was one of those super long meal days. We arrived here for lunch, hung out, and by the time everyone else showed up, it was time for dinner. Lots of eating today, as we spent two full meals in the restaurant.

Over the past few days, I noticed that whenever Stacey or Shane took out their cellphones… Jasmine was instantly mesmerized. I had joked that I should just buy her a new (unactivated) cellphone for her birthday.

This is my Auntie Vicky and my cousin Andrew. Auntie Vicky is holding the Elmo Cellphone that I chanced across at the local Target, earlier today. Is that serendipity or what?
