Bongo Room

I’ve been wanting to go to the Bongo Room for breakfast for some time now. This morning, Liz and I started off our day doing just that – brunch at the Bongo Room, and then off to the zoo for an afternoon of hanging out with animals.

The coffee here is great, and though we didn’t land a table – the counter was nice (we snagged the corner, and so were able to talk to one another fairly easily).

Liz got the Lemon-Ricotta pancakes (served with roasted pistachio-gingersnap butter) and I got the Blueberry Cheesecake flapjacks (graham cracker crusted blueberry flapjacks topped with warm almond panna-cotta cream and blueberry coulis). Deliciousness. All weekend breakfasts should taste this good.

We were sitting next to a guy who saw me with my camera. “Are you taking a picture of your FOOD?” he asked us. It’s been a while since I’ve had to explain what I do to people, but I guess it is a little weird from an outsider’s perspective. To me, it makes perfect sense that I’d photograph my meal.

I didn’t catch the guy’s name, but he told us that he comes in every Saturday morning, and has the exact same thing (Chocolate Tower French Toast). He’s been coming in for a super long time (a few years actually), and he says he can tell when they make it wrong.

After seeing how easily it is to get a counter spot if you’re alone… I may have to slip back in to the Bongo Room some morning, on a solo mission. The food here is tops.
