Dinner on Devon
Got an invite from Matt and Tracy to have dinner with them at Udupi Palace, a vegetarian Indian restaurant on Devon Avenue.
I was debating taking Liz’s scooter, but wasn’t sure if I wanted to trek all that way. Mostly, I’ve been doing short trips (going to work is about as far as I’ve taken it). I’ve been up to Devon before for Indian – but it was a long time ago, and not someplace I frequent.
In hindsight, it was good I drove. Devon’s pretty far away and, even in a car, I underestimated the time it would take to get out there and ended up being the last to arrive (and 20 minutes late, to boot).
As a result, I didn’t really break out the camera much. But I did take a few quick pics of the meal.
Shot of the group. In addition to Chelsea, Matt, Tracy and Nuanda… Matt’s family was also in attendence, as were Phil (L) and Megan(R) (who I met, way back when, at Chelsea’s birthday party).
I had a pretty interesting potato dish (I forget the actual name, and couldn’t find it on their menu). Mostly potatoes with cumin seeds, and a little spicy for my tastes. Conversely, Phil got a similar dish (potatoes and cauliflower), which was a little milder with a hint of sweetness. He and I traded a bit, and we both found we preferred the other’s entree.
I don’t know that I’ve really walked around on Devon before. I really liked the neighborhood, and am actually looking forward to going back there again.
On a somewhat related sidenote, I’ve been thinking a lot about Ethiopian food, the past few weeks. I haven’t had Ethiopian since my days in Columbus, at a little joint called Blue Nile. Big group. Eating with our fingers. Gotta get that set up.
