Dave Gets a Cellphone!
For the longest time, Dave and I were the Luddite holdouts who refused cellphones. Neither one of us were on the phone all that often, and we didn’t see the point of always being “reachable.”
Yeah, yeah, you can always turn it off. All that jazz. But I feel we both were of the mind that, if you walked around with a cellphone turned off most of the time… why get one?
During emergencies or when you’re lost, the cellphone is a great tool. But I simply didn’t see a need for it.
Last year, I broke down and got a cellphone. In some ways, I was waiting to see who would cave first – me or Dave.
And today? A year, 6 months and 4 days later… Dave, the last cellphone holdout, decided to get a celly of his very own.

Dear Friends and Loved Ones,
It’s time to pull out your favorite scrapbook/calendar/farmer’s almanac and a big ol’ permanent marker, because today’s a day for the history books. It’s official, as of Thursday, October 18th, 2007…
I finally own a cell phone.
I know, I know- I cried a few tears of joy myself. Here, take a tissue. And when you’ve regained composure, please make a note that I can now be reached at my new digits:
XXX-XXX-XXXX
I’m keeping my old landline, but only for internet purposes, so if you feel like hearing my voice, the cell # is definitely the way to go. And if you’d like to text me your congratulations, feel free to do that, too.
Thanks so much for your patience on this one.
hope you’re all well,
dave
i cried laughing when i got the email. my favorite line, “here, take a tissue.”
