Balloons on BoingBoing!
Woohoo! On a whim, I sent in a link to the birthday balloon surprise, and got it picked up at BoingBoing.
My day was already awesome as is. And seeing the link on the home page of BB was icing on the proverbial cake. With the upcoming Pi Day (3/14) and all the traffic that I usually get for the pi10k experiment, my stats are going to look a little crazy this month.

Hana (March 16, 2009 at 2:02 pm)hi there. i saw this through boingboing, and i thought you and liz might like to hear my story. it seemed like a great idea, so i put together something very like this for my boyfriend, in his home, for his graduation. his grad school experience has been a difficult one, and he has felt very alienated, even though many people really enjoyed and respected him and his work, so i thought this might help him see how many people care about him. when he came in he was extremely surprised and seemed a little shocked. a few friends who had come by to see his reaction read him some of the messages, and then they left. at this point, he basically collapsed, sobbing, for quite awhile. his family had not been very supportive of his schooling, and he did not think anyone cared about this milestone, so it was basically world-changing for him to see not only that people cared about graduations, but also that people cared about HIS graduation. i am so, so grateful to liz for her creativity and you for posting this project to boingboing. it’s a terrific gift for anyone, but in this situation it was really just mind-boggling and beautiful. so yes: thank you.

Everyone deserves to feel appreciated and loved, especially if they are.I’m so glad you were able to use this idea for your boyfriend.
