Starting the Morning with a Fire

Yesterday morning, walking out of the Red Line at State, I got to the street level to see this:

Hidden behind this image are about two additional firetrucks. Lots of cops all over, too.

What’s particularly unsettling is that, yesterday at the end of the day, I saw a TON of firetrucks and ambulances near State, heading down Jackson towards Wabash.

I later found out from LIz that there was an issue inside her building, where an electric panel inside one of the elevators started smoking.

Here’s what they were here for, I presume.

As the firetrucks were leaving, I looked up and saw a ton of smoke coming from the roof. The day was pretty overcast and foggy to begin with, but it definitely looked like smoke to me.

As the firetrucks all started to pull away, I lingered awhile. But seeing that they weren’t all that terribly concerned, I eventually walked away. There was still smoke and all that, but I figured if the firemen weren’t concerned, maybe I shouldn’t be either.

Weird to walk away from a smoking building thinking Oh well, guess things are fine.

Needless to say, all the firetrucks and ambulances in the area make for an unsettling day. The fact that they all too place within a one block radius of where I work is a nice upper.

Working downtown – never a dull moment!

  1. What IS that building, incidentally? Windowless buildings give me the creeps!

  2. I saw this yesterday as well but it must have been before the firetrucks arrived. I assumed it was simply an HVAC issue with the rain since nobody seemed to be reacting to it. Walked right by without a second thought!
