Halloween in Merrillville, IN
Liz and I headed over to Merrillville, IN to hang out with Tricia and Darryl for the afternoon. We also stuck around to see all the kids’ costumes, and went over to Katie and Dan’s neighborhood.
I’m used to seeing lots of folks trick or treating, but apparently it’s been a while since I’ve seen it on a scale like this. There were TONS of people around, and tons of houses opening their doors and giving away candy.
Maybe it’s because I’ve gotten older, and have lived in the city too long. Maybe it’s because I just get dressed up, but never go around for candy. The amount of kids (and the amount of adults) out tonight was impressive to me.
Cameron, dressed as The King himself.
Paige, looking for someone to tackle.
Savannah as Foofa from Yo Gabba Gabba. Her costume was entirely hand made by Katie, no less!
The folks here go all out. These are all light-up pumpkins, and wired to be going long after the sun sets.
See what I mean about all out? This was the first of many fire pits, as a lot of folks were set up in their driveways and trying to keep warm.
Wish I knew the reference, but these two were awesome.
A jellyfish floated by, followed shortly by a Sponge Bob.
Lots of kids swarming the house.
Paige, wrapped up in a blanket and riding along in the wagon. She looked like a grandmother, along for the ride on the Oregon Trail.
Paige, showing a great deal of courage. I’m a grown man, and I was a little creeped out by this costume…
Autobot needs fuel…
This is more for posterity, as the photo is bad. But apparently, this kid was dressed as Chucky from Child’s Play. He even had a tiny knife in his hand. I would LOVE to know the backstory on this.
This was lovely to see, right as the light started to fade in the sky.
