Two Rabbits Meeting on Neutral Ground
These photos are from a second meeting between Baxter and Marciano (who we have yet to rename). We’ve got them on top of our bed, hopping around a few layers of blankets.
We’re hoping that having the bunnies meet on neutral ground will make the transition smoother, and allow the two to pair bond a little easier.
The timing of the bonding is up in the air. In rare cases, it can happen as quickly as a few days. Most likely, it’ll take a few weeks before these two will fully get comfortable with one another.
Awww.
Despite the cuteness, we were seeing a bit more aggression this time around. It might have been due to the fact that it was close to dinnertime, and both rabbits were getting a little impatient for their food.
Still though, they were generally ok with being in close proximity to one another, when things settled down.
Both rabbits have been attempting to force the other to groom them, a very bold move that would make the one being cleaned the more “dominant” bunny. When the two get together, they both push their heads lower and lower, trying to get the other to lick/clean them.
So far, it seems to be a battle of wills – with both rabbits trying to assert themselves as the alpha.
Up close though, when they’re at rest and settled down… it’s just way too cute. How about video featuring nothing but nose twitches?
The new bunny seemed a bit starved for attention, so I hopped in the cage to spend a little time petting the guy. I’m sure you’re already coming up with some great captions for this photo, so feel free to leave ’em in the comments.
