Across the Universe: Covers by Rufus Wainwright and Fiona Apple

Recently I’ve been listening to the Rufus Wainwright cover of Across the Universe. All day today I’ve ben looping it a bit in the background, over and over.

Randomly, I happened across a video on YouTube featuring a cover of the song by Fiona Apple. It was made for the movie Pleasantville, that movie where everything and everyone is in all black and white. I’d never seen this video before, and I’m kind of entranced by it. I’m loving the slow motion movements from her, while all this chaos is happening in the background.

While I definitely prefer Wainwright’s cover more, I’m finding myself surprised to learn that this video is over 12 years old. Maybe it’s everyone else dressed in 1950’s garb, but it feels to me as though this video could have been shot this year.
