When You Wore a Tulip

Made famous by Percy Wenrich and written by Jack Mahoney, the song When You Wore a Tulip and I Wore a Big Red Rose has been stuck in my head the past few days. While searching YouTube for versions of this song, my favorite I encountered was the rendition by Teresa Brewer.

I don’t really know much about Wenrich, Mahoney or Brewer, beyond the few scant entries on Wikipedia. I may have to do a little more digging and see if I can find any more music by these three.

I first heard this song off an album by Lil’ Rev – a musician I met during Ukelele Night at Kavarna, the coffee shop that my friends Alex and Linda run. I liked his stuff so much, I ended up buying two of his CD’s that night.

His website looks like it’s down currently, but I encourage you to visit and check out his stuff. He’s a great musician, and appears in a lot of clips on YouTube.
