Cut the Rope: Addictive, Perfectly Paced Game for iPhone
Cut the Rope is by far one of the most addictive games I’ve played on my iPhone.
It’s a deceptively simple game. Your goal is to get a piece of candy to the main character (named Om Nom). It’s a physics-based game, where you use a bit of intuition and timing to cut ropes with your finger… getting the candy from one location to another.
The pacing of the game is nothing short of excellent. Some levels gently introduce new functionality and challenges, letting you slowly learn about the various elements within the game. I’d argue that the entire game itself is a kind of slow tutorial, providing new features as you advance through the game.
Overall, there are currently eight boxes (each box containing 25 “levels”). Overall, this makes for about 200 levels… and they’re constructed in such a way that they feel great when you finish. Several levels are super easy, and several are just hard enough that it takes a bit of figuring out. I never got super frustrated with the game, and the levels always felt just challenging enough to require a few attempts. Out of the 200 levels, there have been only 3 that I haven’t been able to figure out.
Given the amount of time and enjoyment I’ve had with this game, I’m amazed it only cost $0.99. It is absolutely well worth it – I’ve gotten my money’s worth, and then some. Available for both iPhone and Android
