Your Unknown Friend,
Horace H. Williamson
Franklinville
L.I.

Dec. 11 – 1884

Based on other entries in this book, I take L.I. to stand for Long Island.

I’m not 100% sure on this, but fourteen years after this signature… on February 12, 1898, Franklinville became known as Laurel. This is an excerpt from a local paper:

So old Franklinville, goodbye; sleep well with your record full of the helpful deeds of wise men and noble women. To Laurel, hail! and may the way of the community which you now represent in the world be none the less joyous and prosperous than that which it knew and followed under its former designation.
