In the book of life, “Gods Album”
May thy name be traced with care,
And may all who here have written
Write their names forever there.

I’m wondering if everyone in the late 1800’s had their own custom quatrains, used for specific occasions like guest books and autograph books like this. Or did they simply read more poetry, and were able to make stuff like this up on the spot, each time?
