One Fiction
by Felix Jung
Every story can be broken down
into elements of timing and space:
man goes on a trip, man comes to town.
Odysseus sailed his way around
the world while Penelope was chaste.
Every story can be broken down.
Orpheus, hearing nothing but the sound
of footsteps, turned around to face
Eurydice, and walked back to town
alone. Oedipus lost his eyes and crown
soon after he felt his mother’s embrace.
Every story can be broken down
into its smaller parts of lost and found
and lost again, each king replaced
by another from another town
nearby. Adam, crafted from the ground
in Eden, eventually fell from grace.
Every story can be broken down:
man goes on a trip, man comes to town.
