Lonely Shoes
Walking home from work, I spotted a pair of lonely shoes in the tunnel near the Jackson Blue/Red stop. It seemed such an unusual spot to encounter such a thing – and I immediately began to wonder whether they were intentionally thrown away, or somehow forgotten.
There’s a Foot Locker near the State street exit, pretty much right where the stairs meet the street. My best guess is someone got a newer pair of shoes, and decided to leave the old ones.
The fact that these were left at a CTA stop adds a tinge of sadness to the story, and makes me think someone stepped out of one life so that they could step into a newer one, en route to somewhere else.
