Seven Minutes of Terror: Landing on the Surface of Mars

Launched in late November of 2011, NASA’s Curiosity will be landing on Mars in the early days of August. This video shows team members, talking about the technical challenges they’ll need to overcome, to get the vehicle down safely to the ground.

When people look at it… uh, it looks crazy. That’s a very natural thing. Sometimes when we look at it, it looks crazy.

It is the result of reasoned, engineering thought. But it still looks crazy.

This video made the rounds a while ago, and I only recently watched it – well worth the time, and a fascinating glimpse at all the incredible details and sequence of events that need to happen, to get this rover on the ground.
