The Excitement Continues
To alleviate the you cook, I cook, you cook trade-off… Liz decided to research some crock pot recipes. We spent about two hours one night prepping ingredients, and put a ton of dinners in the freezer for a later day.
In hindsight, the prep work wasn’t all that bad. There was no browning of meat, or anything complex – just chop up veggies, measure out some liquids and spices… put it in a bag, and done.
The old crock pot of mine didn’t really cut it, so we got a newer one. A fancier one with timers and all that jazz.
For meals, we’ll take out a frozen package the night before and let it thaw in the fridge. In the AM, before we leave, we place the mostly thawed dinner in the crock pot and set it to cook for 6 hours. After that, it kicks into “warming” mode, and we let it ride until dinnertime.
It’s been pretty ok so far. For a few of the meals, the beef and chicken have come out a litle dry… so it’s a matter of fine-tuning the cook and warming times. If you’re curious about what we meade (or want to see some of the recipes), you should check out Liz’s post on her site.
