Shadowgun: DeadZone
Lately, I’ve been pretty hooked on a free iPhone/iPad game called Shadowgun: Deadzone. Made by Madfinger Games, this is a multiplayer version of their FPS game… and though there aren’t a ton of maps, the graphics are pretty stellar and the whole thing is free to play (iTunes / Google Play).
It’s been a really long time since I’ve been sucked into a multiplayer game. A few years ago it was Team Fortress 2, and before that it was Unreal Tournament.
Though it’s not quite the same as a platform-based multiplayer, it definitely scratches that itch. This is a game that I play pretty much daily, and it’s still hasn’t lost its lustre, after a few weeks.
The game plays well enough on iPhone, but it’s definitely better on an iPad. A nice feature is that you can play against folks regardless of the device, and you can see the OS in the user list.
One funny thing – one of the default character skins I’m using is the “Mutant” skin. Liz pointed out to me that my avatar is wearing some ass-less chaps, and now every time I play the game she asks me Are you playing that butt game again?
Now that I know it’s there, I have to work consciously to ignore it, every time. But hey – sometimes you have to choose comfort over fashion, amirite?
PS: My nickname is “avoision,” if you’re interested in adding me.
