United States Postal Service: Behind the Scenes Video Showing How Mail is Sorted and Processed

I find “behind the scenes” videos like this to be utterly fascinating. I started off thinking this would be somethingn I would just check out briefly, and ended up watching the whole thing through.

It’s impressive to know the sheer volume of stuff the USPS deals with, on a daily basis. That’s a lot of individual items, that’s a lot of chances for things to go wrong. On the flip side, I had no idea how much of the process was already automated (with the machines sorting items to match each postal employee’s delivery route).

I stand newly impressed at what the USPS has going on, in terms of the processes in place to help coordinate all that mail they deliver. But the biggest challenge still, it seems, is the (deserved) reputation the USPS has for miserable customer service at their branches (I won’t go into a post office branch unless I absolutely have to).
