Hauling Dirt Back Into the Basement
Sunday, Liz and I tackled the basement and back yard some more. While she continued to clean up the basement walls, I was working on hauling lots of sand back into the basement. We created this huge mound back in June, and it’s finally time to bring all this stuff back in to the house.
About halfway through the pile…
All clear! Started to hit a bit of soil, so we called it quits at this point.
Another very large pile of sand, in the basement – one of our recurring themes.
The plus side with all this is that we are in a phase where we are effectively adding things to the house (versus simply doing demo and hauling stuff out). Feels kind of good, when looking at it from that vantage point.
Next steps will be to even this out across the whole exposed floor, and do the water and tamp thing again. Once that’s finished up, we’ll be in a better position to be able to pour concrete back in, and start to make the back basement usable again. With new plumbing and a new floor, we’d be able to hook up a washer/dryer – and that would really be a milestone for us.
A big pile of sand we had once hauled out of the basement has now been hauled back inside. Progress sure does look funny, sometimes.

I know how this feels. One of my big projects lately is moving a giant pile of dirt around the yard. But we did just throw away 500 pounds of garbage we demoed out of the house this weekend…so that feels like progress!
Mellzah (September 8, 2014 at 3:01 pm)500 pounds is a tremendous amount! Though after having done a bit of demo, that stuff ends up weighing a ton.
I am constantly amazed at how much *stuff* we haul out of this house, and how much it weighs.
Good luck with your house stuff, and the pile of earth you’re moving around. It’s like we’re both entered into the same, terrible contest!
